Starting an Etsy shop is exciting, but the beginning can also be really discouraging. When no one knows your work yet, getting that first customer can feel almost impossible. And I completely understand why. As a customer, buying from a shop with no sales and no reviews can feel like a risk. You don’t know the seller, you haven’t seen anyone else’s experience, and you’re simply choosing to give that person a chance.
That is exactly why the first sale means so much. Out of thousands of listings, thousands of designs, and so many established shops, someone found my product and chose mine. They looked at something I created and decided it was worth buying. For a small creator, that feeling is incredibly special because it reminds you that your work can connect with someone.
My first Etsy sale came after about two months, and by then I was already starting to lose hope. I honestly thought that maybe I wouldn’t sell anything at all. I had started focusing more on my college projects while my Etsy shop stayed quiet in the background. I wasn’t really expecting anything anymore, which is why seeing that first order come through was such a surprise.
I’ve already prepared and packaged the order, and now I’m just hoping so much that my customer loves the product when it arrives. I’m going to attach a photo of my very first Etsy order here because I want to remember this moment. Maybe one day I’ll look back at this picture and remember exactly how everything started.
It may have been only one sale, but to me it meant much more than that. Someone took a chance on my shop before there were reviews, before there was any proof that other people trusted my work, and among thousands of options, they chose something I made. That first customer gave me more than an order — they gave me a little bit of hope to keep going. 💛
